The Testimony of a Church

The Testimony of a Church

Ed

It was a sad time.

The family, friends and acquaintances were gathered around the grave to say farewell to a brother in law.  The cemetery was full of people standing and waiting for the service to begin.

The problem was the preacher wasn’t there.  Due to an unforeseen event, he would not be able to make it to the graveside service.  A quick discussion was held.  A decision was made.  Ed would say the final words.

Ed stepped up and looked out at all the people.  It seemed like hundreds were looking back at him.  (Turns out there were around four hundred people there.)  Ed has never been one for public speaking and certainly wasn’t prepared to do this now.  But he closed his eyes and said a silent prayer to God asking for His help to get through the next few minutes.

As he ended his prayer, he felt a sense of peace settle over him.  He was no longer nervous or afraid.  He began to speak.  And boy, did he!  He spoke loudly, he spoke clearly. He talked for some period of time on the 23rd Psalm, John 14 and Thessalonians 4.  But when it was over he couldn’t clearly recall what all he had said.

He was still in somewhat of a daze, when one of the people from the crowd stepped forward and asked him “Sir, where do you preach?”

Jesus had helped him just like he said in Luke 21:15 KJV –   ”For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.”
