Letters from Roscoe – Messages from God

Messages from God

Fear thou not; for I am with thee:  be not dismayed; for I am thy God:  I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. -Isaiah 41:10 KJV

That was the verse at the tip of Dwight Cusic’s finger last night after Sunday night worship.

As he came up to Cindy and I he had his bible open and his finger marking the place where that verse lay.  He said to Cindy “I don’t know why, but I am being led to show you this verse.”  He continued saying “My niece is scheduled for surgery and we are concerned about it.”

Cindy had gone down to speak with Brother Eddie during the invitation, and I immediately thought that Dwight was being led to show her the scripture because of that.

But I was wrong.

Cindy though, knew exactly what the significance of that scripture was and why Dwight was being sent to her.  Cindy makes the prayer blankets that Delois Borden gives to members of our church family when they have surgery.  Those blankets are emblazoned with the scripture Isaiah 41:10.  They can be carried into surgery with the patient giving them something to hang onto as they recite God’s promise to them in their moment of need.

God had sent Dwight to the maker of those blankets who in turn sent him to Delois to obtain one for his niece.  She will get him one today.

Why didn’t God just send Dwight directly to Delois?  Because I needed to see this happen, God wanted me to see it.

During Brother Eddie’s message last night as he spoke of Jesus’s first miracle, when he turned the water into wine.  My mind wandered some and I was thinking that ‘I’ wasn’t looking for ‘God’ anymore.  At least not in the way I was when I started writing the Roscoe letters.  I wasn’t looking for all those wondrous signs that He gives us even though they happen all the time and they are all around us.

So in essence he grabbed me by the shoulders, shook me, pointed my head and eyes to where he wanted me to see and said, “Behold!”

Dwight had heard and then followed God’s urging.  Cindy saw, understood and knew what to do.  Then she helped me to see what had just happened so that I could write about it and share it with you.

Our God is such an awesome God!  All we need to do is open our eyes and see!

I think we’re all guilty of becoming complacent. Thankfully God continues to point us back to Him. Thanks!
