Answered Prayers

What a great day it’s been!

First, I couldn’t get into my car.

Seriously, I couldn’t get into my car.  I had the keys in my hand, the key turned in the lock but didn’t do anything.  Both key fobs seemed to be as dead as doornails . . .  what to do?  What to do?   I went to God’s house.

When I got there I got to tell my praise.

Last night at dinner, we had eaten some ribs along with some chips and dip.  Nearing the end of the meal Cindy said that she had something stuck in her throat.  She (we) figured it was a chip that had gotten lodged sideways.  So she tried drinking some liquids in a hope to dissolve it, no help.  She tried chewing some other foods to push it down.  No joy either.

Things are starting to get serious now, she went to the bathroom and tried using her toothbrush and was picking up blood, but still couldn’t dislodge it.  So I got a light to look down Cindy’s throat to see what was stuck.  I couldn’t see anything.  So we started talking about going to the Emergency Room.

Right then, the doorbell rang.  It was our oldest daughter.  We told her what was going on and she had her super magnifying reading glasses as took a look.  She saw it immediately.

It was a piece of silver wire about ½” long that had gotten embedded in the back of Cindy’s throat.  We got the long tweezers and Cindy said aaaaaahhhhhhh! As Sheila grabbed hold of it and pulled it out.

It was a piece of hard wire like you’d get from a steel wire brush.  We don’t know how it came to be there, but God was definitely watching over us.

He kept her from swallowing it to where it would have caused who knows what kind of problems.  He had Sheila show up unannounced with her ‘super readers’ to be able to see it when I couldn’t.

God just saved the day.

And I got to share that story.  Then I got to hear others:

A family who had been trying to sell some equipment on Craigslist for months.  Then a short prayer was said and within minutes a phone call was received from a buyer who came and purchased it!

A woman undergoing chemo-therapy who is amazing doctors with her strength and stamina.  She knows that it is the power of prayer that God is using to lift her up!  Pray for her strength to continue this week as she has this final round of high power treatment.  She wants to see her son play football this week!

A man who is glad to be walking and almost pain free following a car-wreck a couple of weeks ago.

The story of a blind man whose vision has been getting better by playing video games (That’s one blessing!)  is given a job testing video games for people with vision disabilities!  (There’s the second!)

And finally, we started discussing today’s Sunday School lesson.  It is a subject that a close friend of mine and I had discussed some time ago.  “Understanding the Cross,“ explains why it had to happen the way it did.  Why Christ had to die in the manner that he did.  The fact that we are undertaking this particular lesson is another answered prayer in itself!

What a day!

Lately my mind had been dwelling on the negatives.  Things like, why people get mad and leave their Church instead of practicing what Jesus said and forgiving those that wronged them.  Why it seemed (to me anyway) that the spirit hasn’t been as strong in our Church lately.

But then I am surprised when a brother hands me the entire series of “Thru the Bible” by J. Vernon McGee and tells me to keep them he has another set.

His gift and the realization of God’s many, many, many answered prayers raised my eyes from the negatives and showed me his infinite goodness!

I just hadn’t been looking!

PS:  One final blessing, as I was looking forward to a cold afternoon trying to get into my car, I remembered that AAA Membership card I had bought (mostly for Cindy when she’s on the road) and forgotten about till now.  Just a phone call and the wrecker was there to unlock my car for me and get it jumped off.

God is so good to me.  Thank you Lord.

If we could approach prayer and the answers of them like that of a child going to a loving father, our attitude toward this remarkable opportunity would grow immensely. Beautiful thoughts.
